This group was founded by Steve Reich for the purpose of performing works he composes. Performances by the group can involve anywhere from 2 members to 18 (for performances of "Music for 18 Musicians"). It is also alternately credited as the "Steve Reich Ensemble".

Please do not confuse "Steve Reich and Musicians" with the "London Steve Reich Ensemble".

A separate percussion ensemble, Nexus, also has been formed from among members of this group.
