Tools

  • a-tisket Helpful tool for adding releases from Spotify/Apple Music/Deezer
  • MB: Enhanced Cover Art Uploads This script grabs the highest quality coverart from a given source possible. In my experience coverart quality is usually Tidal > Apple > Deezer >>>>> Spotify. Please don't use spotify coverart unless there is no better option as they are so low quality.
  • MB: Display CAA image dimensions This script shows the dimensions and file size of coverart making it much quicker to find low quality coverart to replace
  • Tidal - xythium Since a-tisket doesn't support Tidal you can use this tool to find release info including barcodes for Tidal. And I recommend adding Tidal links because 1) More options is good, and 2) In my experience they often have the highest quality coverart
  • Guess Unicode punctuation Searches and replaces ASCII punctuation symbols for many input fields by their preferred Unicode counterparts.
  • Add Spotify ISRC link to release pages Adds an "import ISRCs" link on MusicBrainz releases which have a Spotify URL.
  • MusicBrainz: open all entities on collection page Adds a button to open all entities on a collection page in a new tab
  • mb INLINE STUFF Release page: Inline recording names, comments, ISRC and AcoustID. Direct CAA add link if none. Highlight duplicates in releases and edits. Recording page: millisecond display, spot track length and title variations.
  • mb. MERGE HELPOR 2 Merge helper highlights last clicked, shows info, indicates oldest MBID, manages (remove) entity merge list; merge queue (clear before add) tool; don’t reload page for nothing when nothing is checked

Todo

Things I would like to do/have done with all artists in my collections

  • Add all relevant external artist relationships. All Socials, all other databases(Wikidata, IMDB, TMDB, Generasia, RYM, discogs, etc), all streaming sites especially KR ones as they don't suffer issues western ones have(I avoid adding any mixed artist pages though) and Melon, Bugs!, and genie will have pages for group members even if they don't have their own releases, which helps future editors know for sure who the artist is
  • Make sure at least 1 copy of all releases are added so Listens on ListenBrainz can be matched to recordings on MB.
  • Make sure all releases have coverart if possible, and replace any low quality coverart with the highest quality available
  • Make sure groups all have accurate start and if applicable end dates
  • Add all aliases to each artist, and search hints so when people search an artist before adding they find the existing one and don't create dupes.
  • Add all members to groups
  • Add all missing groups (Find lists on KPOPPING, KPop Fandom, & Kindie Fandom)
  • Add all missing solo artists (Here & here)
  • Make sure all New Releases are added so the backlog of work todo doesn't get larger
  • Melon/Genie/Bugs! have genre info, though Melon seems most accurate. Would be great to add genres for each album and track. It would likely be especially useful for ListenBrainz recommendations
  • Add detailed credits for .. everything. Personally I would love to see work start with the oldest artists as with things like twitter archiving old content, reddit problems causing people to delete their posts, and sites shutting down or purging old content like imgur, companies deleting socials and homepages for old groups, and companies shutting down or getting acquired by others causing their sites to disappear.. more and more information for old groups and songs is disappearing from the internet. So it would be good to add it to MB before its gone. Check out wtfislibrious's edits for examples of doing a thorough job documenting all verions of a release, and Maxr1998 for examples of detailed credits for releases.
  • I tagged every group in my collection with 3 more or members as either a girl group or boy group, if you come across these please upvote them(Maybe they will be used for ListenBrainz recommendations yet), and if I mistagged any let me know. And please tag artists/albums/recordings in general as much as you can with appropriate tags/genres.
  • Add tags for groups and individuals official colours when they have them. Suggested tag format "color: #f4a6d7" & "color: pink".
  • Add all music videos and tag as thoroughly as the sites relationships allow
  • Tag albums and MVs with their concept(I am unsure of the tag format currently)

Other Databases

I edit on a few other sites, and would recommend others give them a look as well

  • Wikidata is as easy to add external relationships to as MusicBrainz, and is also Open Data like MusicBrainz. It also supports more sites than MusicBrainz, so it can be a good site to contribute to as it further helps artists have accurate data in search engines like Google and Bing as they use data from there as well as MusicBrainz
  • Until VideoBrainz becomes a thing, the best we have is TMDB. In the KPop space it is very common for idols to switch to acting at the end of their contracts, and while still working in music they often participate in music related TV shows. So I highly recommend anyone willing to also contribute to TMDB for their favourite artists!

The artists in this collection are just a personal Todo list of artists I've come across that need work but I was too busy at the time with other stuff to work on them.
