TLDR: The 7" version has a sax solo, the album version doesn't.

Please be careful when using this specific recording. There are two versions that share the same title ("When Smokey Sings") and the same time length (4:20). They differ starting at 2:46. Don't rely on the fingerprints. Listen to the media and make sure you have the correct version:

(7" version with sax solo): This version has the lyrics "Would it be true to say I need you so bad, I need you so bad, today, would it be true to say I need you so bad, I need you so bad, OK, " followed by a sax solo.

(album version with alternate lyrics): Has the lyrics "Would it be true to say, Luther croons, Sly's the original originator, James screams, Marvin was the only innovator, innovator, but nothing can compare, nothing can compare when Smokey sings" and no sax solo.

The singles containing the (7" version with sax solo) were released in May-July 1987. The album containing the (album version with alternate lyrics) was released in September 1987.
