That Honey Horn Sound

Not encountered Al Hirt's music before, but he seems critically liked by a lot of people over the pond; this trumpet man's record (which has somehow made its journey from Balboa Island, CA to the east coast of England) was in a large box of "untrendy music" I brought from a local dealer. The box contains, unsurprisingly, large amounts of easy-listening music... your typical offenders are here, James Last, Bert Kaempfert, James Galway and random volumes from those dreaded Reader's Digest boxsets.

So what for Al's record here, it's really very much just OK. It certainly is extremely easy-listening, Al blows his horn and is sometimes accompanied by a soft-chorus - perfect background music while I do other MBz aligned tasks. The album is of a normal length for the period, just under 30 minutes, and covers a selection of "popular" hits and standards of the time; no original compositions here. This is likely what makes this album so benign in the grand scheme as there's not a lot to remember once it's over, just "that was nice, now what next".

If you want some nice background easy-listening then you could certainly do worse than put this on. The album has made it to streaming platforms in beautiful stereo, so listening to it is extremely easy. (I'd recommend the stereo recordings to the mono ones)
