Thankyou (Dido)
~ Song
Annotation
This work should be kept as "Thankyou". Hit Show more below for evidence of its use in Dido's releases, and etymology of the word.
"Thankyou" or "Thank You"
This song is primarily called “Thankyou” as one word across 14 years of Dido releases:
- on the original releases of No Angel in 1999 (for example, the US CD)
- on subsequent re-releases of No Angel (for example, 2003's vinyl reissue or 2008's CD digipak reissue)
- on the 2005 Live at Brixton Academy DVD/CD release (both UK and US versions)
- the 2013 Greatest Hits compilation
- the only notable exception is the 2001 single release which consistently uses "thank you"
Please leave this work, associated recording, and the tracklistings for Dido albums, as printed on the package, as this is clearly an official title used by Dido and/or the production company of her albums.
Various Artists releases, and streaming releases, often have it as “Thank You”. In those cases, it can be entered to the release as written.
"Thankyou" isn't a word
Yes, it is, in British English at least where Dido is from (and perhaps other variants of English too). It is slightly different to "thank you". I would thank you for doing something, or I could give you a thankyou gift for doing something. Within the lyrics themselves, the grammar calls for the two-word version, but that isn't really relevant. Titles and lyrics often don't match up, and titles of things often aren't grammatically correct due to being a few words long, or sentence snippets.
