Baby, It’s Cold Outside (adaptation by John Legend)

John Legend and former SNL writer Natasha Rothwell adapted the popular Christmas-time song "Baby, It's Cold Outside" with lyrics written through a 2018 lens that put an emphasis on respecting a woman's autonomy and consent. For example:
I really can't stay (Baby, it's cold outside),
I've got to go away (But, I can call you a ride).

The adaptation received some public backlash for altering the lyrics of a classic Christmas song and seeming to imply that the original lyrics were problematic. Legend commented on this criticism, "The song was supposed to be silly! It wasn't supposed to be preachy at all. I never disparaged the old version."
